Nov. 4, 2003. Work started last Monday in October 2003, October 27. They started with a trench across the entire back. They did manage to cut our tv cable feed and the neighbours. Not surprised.

What a mess. There was a light dusting of snow the day I took this picture.
IMG_2003.JPG
One side of the base of the chimney. The large foundation crack is on the other side.
IMG_2004.JPG
Nicely shored up.
IMG_2005.JPG
Most of that dirt they simply carted away, to be replaced with drainage stone.
IMG_2006.JPG
Hey, we don't own a wheelbarrow!
IMG_2007.JPG
Looking straight down into the pit, you can see the base of the chimney to the right. Lots of shoring to keep pit from collapsing and keep foundation from falling out I suppose as well.
IMG_2008.JPG
Step out of backdoor into... Maybe we could fill it and have a moat.
IMG_2009.JPG
And the view towards the chimney.

Nov. 13, 2003. A view down the ladder. They've cut the slots for the reinforcing bars. What a racket that was. Also dust all over the basement, it was misty for a bit.

IMG_2104.JPG
Crack has slots cut across its face for steel reinforcement bars to be mortared in.
IMG_2105.JPG
They are starting to fill the pit back in, but with some backing material on the foundation and drainage stone instead of the original earth. This should keep things moist under the house.
IMG_2106.JPG
Apparently, the huge hose was used to flush out any dirt etc. in the weeping tile system. Whatever that is. I'm sure its quite flushed out now.

Nov. 14, 2003. Inside of wall inside house, black backing on crack in preparation for epoxy.

The water pipe they decided not to cut.
IMG_2111.JPG
Temporary support post installed to hold up backdoor landing! They had to cut normal supports to get at crack in wall.

Nov. 15, 2003.
IMG_2113.JPG
I hadn't noticed the large crack trough the middle of that concrete post before.

The sun fooled the exposure meter quite a bit, but there is an enhanced view of the back of the house.
IMG_2117.JPG
The sag in the roof over the carport is definitely much lower than it was.

IMG_2120.JPG
They have put the steel reinforcing bars into the slots and mortared it up.

Closer view. Its drying over a weekend before they do the high pressure epoxy injection. I have no idea where they intend to inject it. (later comment: They drilled holes in afterwards and inserted plastic plugs in to inject it in)
